Shortlisted for ISCM World Music Days Beijing 2018

Ailís’ music-theatre work for voice and small ensemble Break Down De Doom has been shortlisted by the Irish Association of Composers to represent Ireland at the International Society of Contemporary Music in Beijing in May 2018. The piece is a setting of extracts from the play The Invention of Tragedy by the American experimental playwright Mac Wellman.

The International Society for Contemporary Music (ISCM) is an important international organisation comprised of an Executive Committee and a network of around fifty member countries. It is a “premier forum for the advancement, dissemination and interchange of new music from around the world. Through ISCM, [its] members promote contemporary music in all its varied forms, strengthening musical life in their local contexts and making their music and its creators known to world.” More. 

Break Down De Doom was commissioned by Manchester Opera Project in 2016 and premiered in Manchester, UK in July 2017.
