The British pianist James Willshire premiered The Height of Me by Ailís Ní Ríain commissioned by the Late Music Series in York on 1st September 2018.

The evening commemorated the centenary of Debussy’s death with ten premieres, each starting with a minute of a Debussy solo piano piece before journeying into the composer’s own sound-world. The concert also included music by Thoma Simaku, Errollyn Wallen, David Power and Nicola Le Fanu.

The Height of Me is based on Debussy’s final piece for piano Les Soirs Illuminés Par L’ardeur Du Charbon, written just a year before his death in 1918.
