Ailís is deaf/hearing-impaired. She wears hearing aids and lip reads. She sustained her hearing loss having contracted encephalitis as a child.
She is an advocate for diversity and inclusion in the arts via her work with Arts & Disability Ireland, Unlimited UK, Shape Arts, DaDafest, the British Music Collection, as a panelist for Sound and Music’s Pathways Scheme and as an Ivors Academy Committee Member.
