Dis/Ability
Ailís is hearing impaired and uses hearing aids and lip reading to facilitate communication. She has been creating work influenced by her experience of deafness since 2007. Her hearing was damaged by contracting encephalitis [inflammation of the brain].
Ailís is particularly interested in creative sign-language interpretation, modes of communication and pushing the boundaries of BSL in performance.
She is an advocate and supporter of deaf and disability arts and has been commissioned by, and/or worked with DaDaFest, Unlimited Impact, Arts & Disability Ireland, Drake Music and Unlimited.
