Ailís is deaf/hearing impaired. She wears hearing aids and lip reads. She sustained her hearing loss after contracting encephalitis as a child.
She is an advocate for diversity and inclusion in the arts via her work with Arts & Disability Ireland, Unlimited UK, Shape Arts, DaDafest, the British Music Collection and as a panelist for Sound and Music’s Pathways Scheme.
Ailís has been making work concerning sensory impairment and deafness since 2009.
