1st Prize for StreetSong at ICSM World Music Days 2006

logoWMDStreetSong has been awarded joint-First Prize at the ICSM World Music Days 2006 Short Cuts Competition and was played at the Kunstmuseum, Stuttgart, Germany on 18th July.  200 works from 30 countries were submitted.

The citation of the jury described Ní Ríain’s StreetSong as “captivating with its icon-like sounds and musical form. Like a movie by Fellini the sounds evoke an aura of associations. The material, however, is declined in the course of the piece to be eventually concentrated in a contrapuntal way and to be juxtaposed in ever-new combinations. Simplicity and intensity are married in a congenial way.”
